Kid’s Dance Classes in York for Ages 5–11

Our Kid’s Dance Party classes are designed for boys and girls aged 5–11. We create a fun, supportive environment where children can build confidence, stay active and enjoy learning exciting routines with children of a similar age.Yes, we offer group dance lessons for all levels and ages.

Not at all. Many children join with no previous dance experience. Our classes are beginner-friendly and designed to help every child learn, improve and have fun at their own pace.

Absolutely. We regularly welcome children who are quiet, nervous or unsure about trying something new. There is never any pressure to perform, and many shy children gradually become more confident as they get to know the group and settle into class.

Yes. If spaces are available, children are welcome to join during the term. We’ll help them settle into the group and learn the routines and activities we are doing.

Our Kid’s Dance Party classes run for 40-45 minutes. This gives children plenty of time to dance, learn new routines, play games and build confidence while keeping the class fun, engaging and age-appropriate. Class starts at 6:15pm and pick-up is 6:55pm. Some parents like to arrive earlier and watch through the windows.

Yes. Our classes are open to both boys and girls aged 5–11. We focus on fun, movement, confidence and creativity, creating an inclusive environment where every child can enjoy dancing and being themselves.

To help children build independence, confidence and friendships, parents do not stay in the room during our Kid’s Dance Party classes. We find that children often settle more quickly, participate more fully and enjoy the experience more when they have the opportunity to engage with the class independently. If your child is feeling nervous, please speak to Rhian before class and we’ll do everything we can to help them feel comfortable.

Classes include warm-ups, exciting dance routines, fun games and confidence-building activities. Children learn new moves, develop coordination and creativity, and enjoy dancing to popular music in a positive and energetic atmosphere.

Children should wear comfortable clothing they can move freely in, along with trainers. There’s no need for a special uniform — we want children to feel comfortable, confident and ready to have fun.

After a trial, spaces are booked termly so, regular attendance helps children build confidence, develop their skills and feel part of the group. However, we understand that family life can be busy and occasional absences are perfectly fine.

Feeling nervous about trying something new is completely normal. We do everything we can to help children feel welcome, comfortable and included from the moment they arrive. Most children settle quickly once the music starts and they begin joining in with the activities.

Many children form new friendships through our classes. Dancing together encourages teamwork, communication and shared experiences, helping children connect naturally while having fun.

We currently run children’s dance classes at Haxby & Wigginton Methodist Church on Tuesdays at 6:15pm, Wigginton Recreation Hall on Thursdays at 6:15pm and Ralph Butterfield Primary School as part of our after-school club programme. We welcome children from York, Haxby, Wigginton, Huntington, Strensall, New Earswick, Clifton Moor and surrounding areas.
